Have you ever seen the movie, The Ultimate Gift?
The story follows a trust-fund, 20-something young man who lives a very prodigal lifestyle – Jason is the picture of recklessness. After the death of his grandfather, Jason expects to receive a large inheritance but instead, he’s left with a series of gifts intended to give him a second chance at life and teach him about what’s really important.
One of my favorite quotes from the movie is when, in a video left after his death, Jason’s grandfather says, “Jason, what I could not teach you in life, I hope to teach you through death.” This powerful premise was a second chance moment for them both.
I was reminded of this movie after hearing a recent UpWords feature by Max Lucado. Max reminds listeners of the second chance Peter was given after he denied Jesus.
“It’s not every day you get a second chance. It’s not every day you find someone who’ll give you a second chance – much less someone who’ll give you a second chance every day. But in Jesus, Peter found both! No wonder they call Him Savior!”
Not only did Max’s words remind me of Jason’s story but of my own. Jason was given a second chance at life through gifts left by his grandfather. How much greater is it that we’re given new life through the gift of Jesus!
This Christmas season we want to thank you for sharing encouraging messages that remind your listeners of the new life they have in Christ!
P.S. If you have a moment during the holidays, you should watch The Ultimate Gift, it’s a good one.
