We are told all throughout Scripture to take up our cross and follow Christ … to remain in tune with the Holy Spirit so we can sense the Lord’s leading and move forward as He lights our paths.
But what if He lit our path all the way to Africa? And what if His will for our lives was to be fulfilled through a volunteer position?
These are the questions that the Mercy Ships staff had to ask themselves before serving onboard, and what I love about each and every team member is that their response was similar to what we read in Isaiah—“Here I am. Send me!”
Recently was International Volunteer Day, and I can’t help but recognize all of the doctors and nurses onboard the Africa Mercy who not only show up for their daily duties, but joyfully and readily go above and beyond to love on the world’s forgotten poor.
The Africa Mercy is the world’s largest private hospital ship, and it’s marking 30,000 surgeries completed by none other than Mercy Ships’ team of volunteers!
It is truly remarkable to see lives transformed and hope restored … all because of the obedience and willingness to volunteer.
May we pause and honor the volunteers in our lives and be sure to express our gratitude for all that they do!
