I love that first moment when you see new jaw-dropping technology. At Google’s conference last year, they demonstrated live, real-time, translation between English and Swedish. Google Translate made a conversation nearly natural via their Pixel Buds. Even though eight months have passed, it’s well worth watching (the English translation is hard to hear since it’s over the auditorium PA):
My jaw dropped again last week, watching Google’s IO conference. Their new “Duplex” feature was announced. It takes advantage of AI and millions of hours of learning natural speech patterns. Here’s where you can watch:
Bear in mind that the voice you hear is completely synthesized. And, the computer is listening to responses, as unexpected as they might be. This has profound implications in managing some of the menial tasks which disproportionately complicate your life.
As I watched, I couldn’t help but think of Romans 8:
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
If Google can translate on the fly, and make requests on our behalf, can you imagine what the Holy Spirit is wordlessly petitioning on our behalf? That we have access to the Throne of God, a translator fixing our speech, and an advocate who represents us to the Father!
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. (1 John 2:2)
Yes, as Charles Morris often says on HAVEN Today, “It’s all about Jesus!” He’s the definitive assistant, the ultimate advocate for you and me!
