When you think about practicing a Christian worldview, it may conjure up ideas or images of great theologians who have all the training and equipping to best communicate with others. But actually, your image should be of you and me, and everyone we come in contact with on a daily basis. It’s the regular conversations we have around our dinner tables or in a coffeeshop with a friend.
Just last week I was enjoying dinner out with a good friend, a fellow believer, who asked me some tough, thought-provoking questions. As our conversation progressed, at one point she interjected with, “Oh, I’m just playing devil’s advocate” to see how I would respond when discussing some hard, real-life issues. It honestly makes you carefully consider how much you really know about what you believe, especially when a trite “Sunday school answer” won’t suffice.
It reminded me of what Chuck Colson would always say . . .
If our culture is to be transformed, it will happen from the bottom up – from ordinary believers practicing apologetics over the backyard fence or around the barbecue grill.
And this summer as we spend more “free time” with family, friends, and neighbors, I encourage you to make it a point to engage with them about what we believe about God and His plan for this world. People around us need Truth in response to what the world is teaching.
And this is also a good time to brush up on your studies. One of the best Christian worldview training programs available for high school and college students is Summit Ministries. This summer, BreakPoint’s John Stonestreet and Warren Smith will be speaking at various conferences. Encourage your listeners to look into Summit and to also be tuning into BreakPoint programs as the Colson Center continues to help equip them with a biblical worldview on the hot topics of our culture.
We thank you for your partnership!
