It’s no secret that I love food, so as November approaches each year, the Thanksgiving meal is something I always look forward to.
However, each year as I eagerly anticipate each part of the meal, I can’t help but think of those who aren’t able to put a turkey on the table … those who have to tell their children that it just isn’t possible.
This is why I love Cru’s outreach, Boxes of Love, which provides a Thanksgiving meal to families who might not otherwise have one. With enough food for a family of six, each box holds meat, vegetables, potatoes, juice, yams, cranberry or apple sauce, bread, fruit , dessert, and more … plus Scripture!
And not only that, but each box is delivered by a member of a local church. So, not only do families receive physical nourishment, but care and community all year round.
One story in particular that touched me was from Jimmy Badillo, who received a box for him and his son. “When I received a box of love, I felt hope,” Jimmy Badillo expressed, “Watching my son eat from that box was … it was a joy.”
Jimmy went to his local church just to thank them for the meal, but ended up giving his life to God in that same moment.
What a great reminder to not only be grateful for what we have, but to step outside of ourselves and our families to give to those in need this holiday season.
We’re so grateful for your partnership in encouraging listeners to make their lives count in the most valuable ways this Thanksgiving and Christmas!
