Last week, I noticed two Mormon missionaries in my neighborhood going door to door. This wasn’t an isolated event. Rain or shine, young zealous Mormons peddle around Dallas, witnessing to anyone who will answer the door. Every faithful Mormon commits two years of his or her life to the mission field, and they are witnessing right here in the United States. These young Mormons are so dedicated to proclaiming error, but what are we Christians doing to proclaim the Truth?
I went to the Share Life Today website and came across a great witnessing idea from John Sorensen. It’s called “Laundry Baskets for Christ.” You’ll need a laundry basket, a small bottle of All detergent, a box of Gain fabric softener and 30 quarters ($7.50). Here’s how it works:
Visit a local laundromat with at least 2-3 people on your team.
Approach someone who looks open and introduce yourselves giving your first names and saying, “We’re from ____________ church and we have a gift for you. Do you have a few minutes to chat?”
Always ask for permission to continue. If a person accepts, explain that the basket contains All detergent because “Jesus paid it all,” Gain fabric softener because we can gain eternal life and 30 quarters because Jesus was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver.
Then, you can tell the person that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to purchase a place for us in heaven, which He offers as a free gift. Be sensitive to his body language and their verbal response.
