I remember hearing these lyrics on the radio over the last several years in the hit song, “Blessings,” by Laura Story. And—last Spring—without realizing it was the same author, I purchased her book, When God Doesn’t Fix It, on Amazon!
In both her music and her writing, I have gleaned so much from the wisdom God has given Laura through unexpected, painful circumstances.
On a recent edition of Making Your Life Count, Laura shares:
As a songwriter, I’m not necessarily writing about these truths that I’ve mastered as much as I’m writing about what God’s teaching me right now. And it really is this idea of saying, “God, I don’t understand my story, I don’t understand your ways, but I am believing that there are blessings that you bring about through the hardest of trials.
Laura is a great reminder that it’s possible to “make our lives count” amidst life’s hardships. In fact, trials are often the gateway for the Lord to “make our lives count” in big ways for His glory.
As Laura so eloquently ends her song:
“What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise?”
