One of the most significant ways in which Mercy Ships exists is through volunteers.
Volunteers from over 49 nations have served onboard the Africa Mercy, and one of the ways in which you’ve helped make that possible is by airing The Mercy Minute!
At 16,572 tons, the Africa Mercy is currently the largest civilian hospital ship in the world! Serving in Cotonou, Benin for the first half of last year, and Douala, Cameroon for the second half … here are just a few ways in which this ship helped change and transform lives in 2017:
- Surgical Procedures: 2,792 completed (2,597 Unique Patients)
- Dental Procedures & Treatments: 19,309 (8,175 Unique Patients)
- Training & Capacity Building (Mentoring 1:1)
- 115 Surgeons & Health Professionals
- Specific Skills Training (Group Courses): Delivered to 1,871 Health Professionals
- Chaplaincy & Counseling Sessions: 2,566 (Individual or Family Sessions)
- Bibles Distributed: 374
- Mercy Ministries Completed: 257 Visits (Reaching 8,914 People)
While the numbers above are pretty remarkable, it’s even more incredible to think about the ways in which the team onboard has not only provided physical healing, but renewed hope as well.
