Valentine’s Day has become what many would cynically refer to as a “Hallmark Holiday” in the sense that it’s just a made-up occasion to spend money buying cards, flowers, and chocolate.
While some of this may be true, the Bible has a lot to say about love. And as Christians, we should take advantage of this special day to grow our love for others . . . to put the love of God on display in the way we care for our family and friends, especially fellow believers.
In a special Valentine’s Day feature for “The Garlow Perspective” airing on February 14th, Pastor Jim Garlow shares this challenge with listeners . . .
1st Thessalonians 3 says: “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each and every one of you.” So, how are you doing?
Now take a look at 1st Thessalonians 4. It says: “Now about brotherly love, we do not need to write to you, for you, yourselves, have been taught by God to love each other.” That’s quite a compliment.
Apparently they were loving each other well. But it goes on to say in verse 10: “And in fact, you do love all, yet we urge you, do so more and more.”
The Spirit of God would say to us all . . . Learn to love and grow your love even more and more for those around you. So, let me ask you again . . .
How are you doing in making your love increase for other believers?
