You’ve no doubt heard about the solar eclipse expected on August 21st. No eclipse of this kind has occurred in the continental U.S. observable from coast to coast since 1918.
The coming solar eclipse is called the Great American Eclipse. It will arch the country from Oregon to South Carolina. This total eclipse will touch only one country: the United States.
There are a lot of people talking about it and many people across the nation are planning to watch the phenomenon in celebratory ways.
Anne Graham Lotz however, holds a different perspective regarding the Great American Eclipse,
“Jewish rabbis have historically viewed solar eclipses as warnings from God to Gentile nations. Therefore, my perspective on the upcoming phenomenon is not celebratory. While no one can know for sure if judgment is coming on America, it does seem that God is signaling us about something. Time will tell what that something is.” (Read Anne’s full blog post here.)
In a week, the sun will turn black across America – while we don’t know if it’s a sign from the heavens calling upon our nation to turn from its sins and to Christ, as Anne shares in “Daily Light for Daily Living” and the weekly, “Living in the Light,” our country needs Christ, needs to focus on God’s Word and needs to be in prayer:
“Regardless of whether or not the conjecture regarding America’s Eclipse is accurate, we know our nation and our world is in turmoil. Without doubt this is the time for God’s people to get right with God. To repent of our own sin. To share the Gospel with our neighbors.”
The Great American Eclipse will be the first total solar eclipse to sweep across the entire country in 99 years, NASA says. And not since 1970 has there been an opportunity to see a total solar eclipse in such easily accessible and widespread areas of the nation. About 200 million people are within just one day’s drive of the totality zone.
Folks who miss this eclipse won’t have to wait too long for the next one: A total solar eclipse will be visible across portions of the southern and eastern U.S. on April 8, 2024.
What’s most important not to miss however, is not the significant and unique solar eclipse . . . though a phenomena which would be spectacular to view, of far greater importance and of eternal consequence is, as Anne shares, to not miss any and all reminders to repent, share and pray for our country.
