I’m one of those guys who loses everything.
Not anything important, mind you — the little stuff. Keys, wallet, cell phone. In fact, I joke that half the calls coming into my cell phone are from me, looking for it!
But even though those items are small, they matter to me. If one of them goes missing, I search high and low, often in a panic, to find them again as soon as I can. And when I finally find the missing item, I rejoice!
This always reminds me of what Jesus said about God seeking out sinners in Luke 15:8-10: “Or what woman who has 10 silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she finds it, she calls her women friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the silver coin I lost!’ I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”
John Sorensen, president of Evangelism Explosion International and host of Share Life Today, explains further:
There are lost people all around us — many of them in our network of relationships — who are longing for something better. And they’re often reaching unconsciously for God and the satisfaction that He alone can give. They are lost people who desperately want to be found, and they’re waiting for someone like you and me to lovingly reach out to them with the Good News. Lost people matter to God, and He will do everything possible to search for them, to find them and to bring them into His saving grace.
