My daughter Rachel gave me my Mother’s Day card early – to say the words she wrote in the card were humbling would be an understatement.

In her card, Rachel notes the impact I’ve had on her life. Conversely, I think about the impact being her mother has had on me – the significance of her life in the tapestry of mine.

Every day on “Life Issues,” Brad Mattes speaks about the importance of life – of all lives. Though, with Mother’s Day this coming Sunday, Brad reflects specifically on the importance of the lives of mothers:

“Being a mother is the most underpaid, overworked, unappreciated, yet highly cherished job in the world.”

A veteran of the pro-life cause, Brad has more than 41 years of educational, political and humanitarian experience.   As Brad stands at the forefront of pro-life activity, underscoring the significance of life, he notes that Mother’s Day is a particularly poignant day to be thankful to God for choosing our moms to be the one who nurture, teach and love us.

Indeed, moms play such a crucial role in the lives of their children – including children who grow up to be presidents:

“All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.”
-George Washington

“I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.”  -Abraham Lincoln

“There is no love like a mother’s – she who carries the child that God knits in the womb, she who nourishes and guides, she who teaches and inspires, she who gives of her heart and soul and self for the good and the happiness of her children and her family.” – Ronald Reagan

To all moms, with gratitude for the impact of your life . . . Happy Mother’s Day!
