Have you ever thought about what Thanksgiving would be like if your family couldn’t afford the meal?
The options can be painfully limited for families that are struggling around the holidays. When it comes to Thanksgiving, the choices are usually just to celebrate in a church basement or community center with strangers, or not to celebrate at all.
This is why, since the mid-1980s, Cru hand delivers Boxes of Love to doorsteps in 15 major cities across the nation.
A Box of Love contains everything needed for a full Thanksgiving feast for a family of up to six. Trained volunteers from local, inner-city churches distribute the boxes, and then have the opportunity to follow-up with these families throughout the year to offer ongoing relationship.
Cru not only provides a meal to those in need, but a sense of hope and normalcy to those who are going through tragic, heartbreaking, and humiliating times.
During a season that’s marked by family and fellowship, this initiative is a reminder that it’s not about us. It’s not about whether or not we get to be with loved ones or enjoy a yummy feast — but how we can be the hands and feast amidst all of that.
So, how will you “make your life count” this holiday season? Grateful for your partnership as you beg this question daily to your listeners, encouraging them to put on a spirit of selflessness throughout the holidays and all year round!
