We’re studying spiritual gifts in our Sunday School Class right now. The study is from a lesson our pastor taught based on 1 Peter, 4:7-11: Just as each one received a gift, use it serve on another as good stewards of the varied grace of God.
It’s been a sweet time of fellowship as we focus on a different Sunday School Class member every week and share about which of the spiritual gifts we see in evidenced in one another’s lives.
In a conversation with a radio station which just added the one minute radio program, “Diamonds in the Dust” with Joni Eareckson Tada, we talked about the many gifts Joni exhibits. Among her many gifts, there was one in particular which played a factor in the general manager’s decision to add the program to his line-up . . . Joni’s gift of encouragement. He recalled hearing Joni speak at events and how he always left renewed and encouraged. So, when a one minute slot opened up on his station, he didn’t hesitate to add “Diamonds in the Dust” to the station’s line-up.
I couldn’t agree more.
I’ve been privileged to hear Joni speak at numerous events and each time, I walk away with my heart a little lighter and far more focused on the eternal rather than the here and now.
For example, here are just five of the many points of encouragement Joni shared at the KDAR Women’s Night Out gathering I attended last month:
- I can’t do pain but I can do all things through Christ.
- The full scope of God’s power always and only shows up in human weaknesses.
- Can you trust Him to know what’s best for you?
- God’s idea of good is to make us more like Jesus – He’ll give you endurance and perseverance.
- The point is that He will use the pain and suffering . . . not the “why.”
Whether hearing Joni speak at an event, reading one of her books or listening to her radio programs, her many gifts shine through. And, no matter what one is facing – emotional or physical challenges, her gift of encouragement is balm to a weary soul.
