I have always thought of this time of year as exciting and the beginning of a new year as a welcome fresh start, but I realize that this isn’t the case for everyone. In fact, I’ve come across several articles that discuss how a new year brings about much fear and anxiety for many, even Christians.
As someone who served as a pastor for over 50 years, Dr. Jim Garlow recognizes the challenges that a new year brings for many and so when I heard him share this recent message on “The Garlow Perspective,” I wanted to share it with you.
Jim says,
If the prospect of the New Year causes fear in you, pay attention to the promises of Scripture . . .
In John 14:27, Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give as the world does. Do not be worried or upset. Do not be afraid.”
In 2 Timothy we read, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and sound mind.
Then from Joshua, “Do not be terrified. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
And from the Psalms, “Cast your cares on the Lord, and He will sustain you.”
Finally, from Deuteronomy, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the Lord your God goes with you and He will never leave you.”
As you advocate for Christ in our culture, think on these things.
We thank you for your ministry and the many ways you encourage those in your community by sharing these Truths. May 2020 be a year ahead full of His blessings!
