During this holiday season, often we can get so caught up in the “hoopla” of it all that we end up forgetting what it’s really all about. As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday in a couple of days, I am reminded that it’s not all about who makes the best stuffing, juiciest turkey or perfect pie. The heart of it all is really an opportunity to show our thankful heart to God for His many blessings. We can quickly forget to have a grateful heart when that unexpected car expense comes in or a less than desirable medical diagnosis is given to you or a loved one. Being thankful when we are in the midst of a setback or facing challenges is perhaps one of the most difficult things we are called to do. But that’s just it, we are called to do it all with a grateful heart.
In an upcoming broadcast of It’s Time to Pray with Pastor Carter Conlon of Times Square Church, he reminds us of the Scripture in 1 Peter 5:7 that says “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” I don’t know about you, but that verse gives me an overwhelming sense of peace. The Prince of Peace Himself, Creator of the universe, cares about me (and you!) and what’s going on in my life (yours too!). Standing firm in that knowledge of His deep love for me helps fill my heart with gratitude. I am grateful for these truths being revealed to me daily, through His Word and through Christian radio.
Pastor Carter also shares that his dear friend, David Wilkerson, former senior pastor of Times Square Church, often used to say “There is no need to worry for God is in complete control.” So let’s rest in this truth throughout the holiday season. He is in control of all things and we will rekindle that attitude of gratitude and cast all our cares on Him. I encourage you to be that grateful man or woman this holiday season, in a world polluted with bitterness and discontentment. Be that breath of fresh air. And you are that breath of fresh air for your listeners when you air broadcasts like these from Pastor Carter!
Happy Thanksgiving, Friend!
