It’s been nearly 18 years since the tragedy of September 11, 2001. As you remember those who died and the heroes who responded with sacrifices of compassion, take courage with these words of hope and comfort from Scripture. Romans 8:28 says,
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
This verse serves as a reminder that even in hardship and suffering God will work amidst such situations to fulfill His good purpose.
I’d be lying if I said I have never questioned if those words were true. Recently, I had the opportunity to go to New York City and visit the 9/11 memorial and museum. It was there where I experienced a moment when I questioned God and His good purpose. I spent some time gazing at the nearly 3,000 names inscribed into those large bronze panels of those who died in horrific events of 9/11. I asked, “God, why did you allow this, couldn’t you have stirred the hearts of people in some other way?” But what I have come to realize is that’s not for you or me to know. I have to accept by faith that God is sovereign and that He is a God of love, mercy, and compassion in the midst of suffering.
Sadly, since 9/11 there have been many more tragic events causing Americans to be full of fear. But the Bible commands us to,
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6).
In an upcoming broadcast, Remembering 9/11, Carter Conlon invites your listeners to pray with him that there would never be an attack like that again, to thwart the plans of any deviant, and that there would be healing of every heart that has fear because of the past events in our society. So today, and every day I urge you to,
Come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Friends, It’s Time to Pray.
If you would like to add Carter’s daily (1:00) or weekly (24:55) broadcasts to encourage and equip your listeners to pray, email me at kari@ambaa.com for more information.
