It’s a situation no church ever wants to witness: The pastor faithfully preaches the gospel during his sermon, gives an impassioned altar call at the end of the service … and then nobody comes forward to receive Christ. After three or four stanzas of “I Surrender All,” the pastor finally throws in the towel and closes in prayer. It’s so hard to watch!

Yet we can all relate to that disappointment whenever we share the gospel with no visible or immediate results.

On a recent Share Life Today, John Sorensen, president of Evangelism Explosion, encourages listeners not to be dispirited if witnessing doesn’t lead to immediate results.  He says,

We need to remember that we don’t save anyone. God does. We are not the end, but we can be the means that God uses to reach that end.  So be encouraged. Whether you experience a profession of faith or not, you’re being obedient to God’s Great Commission.  Find someone to share life with today and let God decide the outcome.

As the Apostle Paul says in 1 Cor. 7-9,

So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.  He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.  For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

Do you want your listeners become better at witnessing?  Evangelism Explosion wants to help.  For more information and encouragement on how your audience can better share Christ with their friends, relatives, neighbors and even the strangers they meet, feel free to mention on-air the Share Life.Today website for more free Gospel resources.
