Had I not been there, I would have a hard time believing it.
Studying one Bible verse in my Sunday School class led to incredibly rich conversation, reflection and take-away.
One verse.
We’re studying Thessalonians and using Anne Graham Lotz’s 3-question method to do so. To prepare, we watched the video outlining the study method in which Anne prayed,
“Father . . . we want to learn how we can read our Bibles to hear you speaking to us personally through the pages . . . that our Bible reading would never be the same again . . . that it would be part of our vibrant communication with you where we hear what you have to say to us through our Bibles.”
Our Bible verse this past Sunday was 1 Thessalonians 1:1:
Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
As we read the verse, we considered the three questions Anne poses,
- What does God’s Word Say?
- What does God’s Word Mean?
- What does God’s Word Mean to Me?
Our class includes single, divorced and widowed women . . . all of us on different journeys of faith. Yet, while applying Anne’s Bible study method, we found common ground as we talked through Paul’s greetings to the church in Thessalonica and we enjoyed rich fellowship as we reflected on his message of God’s grace and peace.
Studying His Word, whether through a Bible study or by listening to Anne’s radio programs, “Daily Light for Daily Living” and “Living in the Light,” which are deeply rooted in Scripture, are great ways to be reminded of the undeniable truth of Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
